Sanjay_Pic 2Sanjay has over 17+ years of cumulative experience in global social development and public sector governance in the World Bank and the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). He is currently Senior Social Development Specialist at World Bank, Washington DC, USA. Prior to joining World Bank, Sanjay served in Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in India for 10+ years.

Sanjay has been instrumental in developing around grievance redress system on World Bank projects in various countries such as Afghanistan, Philippines, Iraq, Kuwait, South Sudan, West Bank & Gaza, Egypt, Yemen, Kenya, Cameroon. He also co-authored a How-To Note on Designing Effective GRMs in Bank-Financed Projects and conducted clinics and compiled resources for task teams on integrating grievance redress in operations. He has extensively worked on integrating social accountability and demand-side governance in Extractive Industry operations; introducing social audits within operations and social accountability tools and techniques on World Bank projects.

Sanjay worked on capacity building and piloting of social accountability initiatives for Community Driven Development (CDD), and decentralization and local governance projects in South Asia including Andhra Pradesh Rural Poverty Reduction Project and the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project as member of both project teams. These initiatives received the Sustainable Development Network Governance and Anti-Corruption Award 2008. He was also engaged in building a community of practice of social accountability practitioners in South Asia and monitoring and supervision of the TFESSD Trust Fund for Capacity Building and Piloting of Social Accountability Initiatives for CDD in South Asia.

Sanjay served as Deputy Secretary, Finance Maharashtra Government, India, District Magistrate of Osmanabad district, Chief Executive Officer of District Council, Solapur District in addition to various other administrative positions in the state of Maharashtra, India.

Sanjay has co-authored more than 35 publications on various socio-economic development issues in various countries.

Sanjay received his Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT) Delhi, Master in Behavioral and Social Sciences from IIT Delhi and MBA from University of Maryland, USA.
